Rail Connected Industrial Spaces at RTC

Rail Connected Industrial Spaces at RTC

  • 27th July 2018

Located as we are, just half a mile from Derby train station, we are situated close to the mainline which allows us to offer a connection to the national rail network from some of our units. Our existing occupiers include the Birmingham Centre for Railway Research and Education and Loram UK.

Loram UK is involved in the maintenance of railway rolling stock and traction units (carriages or wagons and engines to you and me). They offer a wide variety of services from routine fleet maintenance to train servicing and re-engineering projects for a variety of different customers throughout the rail industry. RTC offers them the perfect location with the perfect balance of rail and road connectivity.

How Derby could be the perfect location

Your business doesn’t have to be involved in railway engineering to benefit from a rail connected unit. For a business looking for industrial units to rent Derby is a great location. It already has an eager workforce, skilled in many engineering and manufacturing specialities due to the long history Derby boasts of industrial innovation, within other industries such as aerospace, aviation and automobiles.

Railway innovation continues within the Birmingham Centre for Railway Research and Education, based on a specially constructed unit at RTC, where they carry out research into high-speed trains in one of only two such units in the whole of Europe.

In fact, RTC used to stand for “Rail Technical Centre” and is where British Rail developed the Advanced Passenger Train, which influenced the design of many modern high-speed trains, including the Pendolino.

You’re in good company

Our connection with the railway doesn’t end there. We have many other tenants involved in the rail industry, both engineering (Network Rail have chosen to base some of their operations here) and a rail training academy to enable a new generation of Derbians to work on the railways.

Whatever your requirements we have units with various types of cranes, inspection pits, ancillary offices or workshops,  mezzanine floors and with varying maximum heights meaning RTC can probably find you a suitable home.

Our leases are flexible and include access to an on-site canteen, security services, maintenance (mechanical and electrical), external building maintenance and, unusually, heating and electricity as we are able to negotiate bulk discounts and pass the saving onto our tenants. Other services, such as leasing training facilities or meeting rooms can be arranged as required by contacting our dedicated Facilities Management Team.
